Do I need a website if I
already have a Facebook page?

It's the most common question we get from small-business owners — and a fair one. Facebook is free, everyone's on it, and setting up a page takes five minutes. So why pay for a website at all? Here's the honest answer.

The short answer: yes — and here's the one-line reason

A Facebook page is rented land. A website is the one place online you actually own. That single difference sits underneath every other reason, so it's worth understanding properly before you decide.

What "rented land" actually means

When your business lives only on a Facebook page, you're building on ground someone else controls. That has real, practical consequences:

None of this makes Facebook bad. It makes it a place you visit, not a place you own.

A website is where Google sends people

Here's the part that matters most for getting new customers. When someone needs a plumber, a hairdresser, a mechanic or a coffee shop, most of them open Google and search — usually on their phone, usually with a suburb attached. Facebook pages rarely show up well in those searches. A proper website, paired with a Google Business Profile, is how you appear when someone is actively looking for what you sell.

That's a completely different kind of customer to a Facebook follower. A follower already knew about you. A Google searcher is a stranger with money in hand, looking right now — and a Facebook page alone usually can't reach them.

It's also about looking real

Fair or not, a business with its own website at its own address reads as more established and more trustworthy than one that exists only on social media. When someone is deciding whether to hand over money, a real site — with your services, your prices and a way to contact you — quietly removes doubt in a way a Facebook page can't.

You don't actually have to choose

This isn't website versus Facebook. The two do different jobs, and they're strongest together:

Use Facebook to stay in touch. Use your website to get found and to close the deal. Point your Facebook page at your website, and you've got both working for you.

"But websites are expensive"

They used to be, and that's exactly why so many small businesses stopped at a Facebook page. That's changed. You can build your own one-page site on our panel and go live the same day for R2 499 once-off, with hosting and upkeep at R249/month (free for your first three months). Owning your patch of the internet is no longer the big, scary expense it once was — which removes the last real reason to rely on rented land.

If you want to see the kind of thing we build, every business in our own portfolio is one we built and run — you can go and click on each one.
